A family member came here to be diagnosed with lung cancer. Her records from Bon Secours were supposed to transfer over, but for some reason she had to go through the patient intake process again. The next time she came in, they apparently had no record of THAT intake, so she had to do it AGAIN. During this second visit, a patient's records were left up on the computer screen in the room we were in, which is a clear violation of HIPAA laws. We turned the monitor off and let Dr. Wade know what had happened. He didn't seem to care.

When she finally received the results of her PET scan, Dr. Wade told us that it was good news because it was isolated to one lung. He said it might have spread to lymph nodes around the central mass but that we couldn't be sure until a biopsy was done after surgery. He made it sound like surgery and chemo were probably going to pretty much set her straight. We left the place feeling good. My family member took the same exact records and test results that Dr. Wade looked at to her surgeon. He told her the cancer had progressed to stage 3A, that it had DEFINITELY spread to lymph nodes, and that surgery might not even be an option because the tumor was so large. If that's the case, we're not sure what can be done to treat her. Needless to say we are now feeling much different than we did leaving Dr. Wade's office. I understand giving bad news to a patient is difficult, but deceptively making people feel good about a very grim situation is immoral. Perhaps he just doesn't know what he's doing, which is just as bad, if not worse.
